What if the Lord Returned Today?

Would you KNOW for sure, nothing doubting, that you would go to heaven?

Is it possible to KNOW for certain that you have eternal life? That is a very great reward, right? Who deserves it?

The truth of the matter is no human deserves or earns eternal life. Eternal life is the gift of God according to Ephesians 2:8 in the Bible.

When we believe in Jesus, we KNOW that we have eternal life both by the promises in God’s Word in the Bible, and by the witness of His Holy Spirit, whom He gives to those who believe in His Name...

“The testimony that God has given us is eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” [1]

“He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself.” [2]

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” [3]

In Christ, even though we die, we live again.

What is our part in this great salvation?

First, we must repent of sin. Sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59:2 says, “Your iniquities have separated you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.”

The Gospel tells us that Jesus took away our sins on the cross. The Gospel is that Christ died for our sins, was buried, was resurrected on the third day, was seen by witnesses for 40 days, and afterwards, He ascended to heaven from where He will return to judge the living and the dead.

Second, we are to believe in and confess that Jesus is our Lord. Then, we have eternal life.

“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” [4]

Jesus is able to keep us from stumbling and present us faultless before God. [5]
