Peace Through His Presence

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” [1]

Rather than be troubled, trust in God and Jesus Christ.

Jesus cites two reasons to trust in Him. First, He has prepared and paid the price for us to have an eternal home with God.

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” [2]

This is not a maybe or a could be… it is a promise from God the Son.

The second reason He cites for us to trust in Him, and to keep His commandments is His presence given to us in the Holy Spirit. Jesus gives His Holy Spirit to those who serve Him…

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.
And I will pray the Father,
And He will give you another Helper,
That He may abide with you forever—
The Spirit of truth,
Whom the world cannot receive,
Because it neither sees Him nor knows Him;
But you know Him,
For He dwells with you and will be in you.
I will not leave you orphans;
I will come to you.” [3]

The Father and Son give the Holy Spirit to those who serve Him. The Holy Spirit dwells with us and is in us. He is God’s abiding presence.

“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” [4]

God abiding with us and in us gives us peace and confidence. We are not alone. Whatever task, whatever circumstance, whatever relationship, we can rely on the abiding Holy Spirit of the Living God to be with us, guide us and empower us.

“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace, I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” [5]

The abiding presence of the Creator and Sustainer of the universe is a powerful source of peace in a troubled world. His presence replaces paralyzing panic with power to BELIEVE!

May the God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, our One Triune God, bless you with His abiding presence and peace today!
