“Our God is a God of salvation, and to God, the Lord, belong deliverances from death.” [1]
Deliverance from death is the gift of God to all who believe in Him.
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” [2]
When I think of being in the throes of death and about to slip off into eternity, I am immensely afraid until the Lord reminds me that I will not be alone, He will be with me. Jesus Christ will resurrect me from the dead and bring me into His eternal kingdom.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” [3]
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” [4]
Jesus raises our soul to be with God and clothes us with a heavenly body.
“How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come? Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies. And what you sow, you do not sow the body that shall be, but mere grain—perhaps wheat or some other grain. But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body.” [5]
God raises the soul with a new body just as He causes a planted seed to produce a new body.
“So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.” [6]
“As we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.” [7]
This miracle and blessing is of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
“We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” [8]
Jesus Christ took on flesh and blood so that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” [9]
Thanks to Jesus’ resurrection and reappearance from the dead to numerous eyewitnesses, we need not fear death. He will resurrect us. Not we ourselves!
Jesus said, “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” [10]
Jesus opens the door to eternal life with God for all who believe in Him.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” [11]
By faith in God Abraham “waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” [12]
Believers in Christ “desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” [13]
Where do we go when we die believing in Christ?
“You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant...” [14]
Jesus brings us into the heavenly kingdom which is without flaw. It is much better than this current world. He also perfects us so that we are no longer flawed sinners any more.
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” [15]
We are receiving not earning the beautiful kingdom of God. Jesus earned it for us by dying on the cross for our sins and by resurrecting from the dead for our resurrection.
“Here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.” [16]
The kingdoms of the world have an expiration date, but no so the Kingdom of Christ.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” [17]
Resurrection from the dead to live with God forever is the good and perfect gift that is from the Heavenly Father to us who believe in His Son Jesus Christ. There is no greater gift than this.
