“Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.” [1]
Good things happen when we cry to the Lord out of the depths of our hearts. This principle is true in Scripture, and true in my life. The Lord listens to our prayers and to our voices.
“Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness and let Your saints shout for joy. I will also clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.” [2]
The Lord provides His priests righteous-ware and His saints with shouts of joy. The Lord provides His priests salvation-ware and His saints loud shouts for joy!
God filled the sweet psalmist of Israel, David, with a love for God and God’s people. The outcome of this love was a focus on building up worship among his people.
“David and the captains of the army separated for the service some of the sons of Asaph, of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals...” “...who prophesied with a harp to give thanks and to praise the Lord.” “...To exalt His horn...” “...for the music in the house of the Lord... for the service of the house of God.” “Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman [the worship leaders and teachers] were under the authority of the king. So the number of them, with their brethren who were instructed in the songs of the Lord, all who were skillful, was 288. And they cast lots for their duty, the small as well as the great, the teacher with the student.” [3]
What a grand time it was! Three highly anointed fathers (Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun) with large families working together in harmony with their sons and others to promote the worship of God with music. They were receiving songs in prophetic mode from the Lord. God’s Spirit gave David the songs – prayer songs – psalms – and he passed them onto the musicians. David gave to God all the glory...
“The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue.” [4]
My response to all this???
“Thank You Heavenly Father! Thank You Heavenly Son Jesus Christ! Thank You Heavenly Holy Spirit! You are still on the throne! You are still the same today as yesterday! You do not change! You are still composing beautiful prayer songs! You are still giving Your people hearts to cry out to You. We KNOW YOU! You hear our cries! You give us songs! You give us singers and musicians to play YOUR songs! And we, Your saints rejoice and shout aloud!
