The greatest thing to happen is to be saved from a disconnected life. A life disconnected from God! And how does that happen?
The Thessalonians turned to God from idols. They committed to serving the living and true God. They lived with anticipation. Anticipating the Lord’s return! They believed the Gospel, namely that Christ died for the sins of the whole world on the cross and resurrected on the third day, and that He is coming again, and that whosoever believes in Him is saved from God’s wrath on sin.
Let’s consider for a moment the value of salvation from God’s wrath on sin.
Romans 1:18 says that “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” Have you witnessed any ungodliness lately? Have you witnessed any unrighteous suppression of the truth?
Jesus said, “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” [2]
Jesus is described as the One who “will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.” [3]
The Bible is quite clear in Revelation 20:15 about what happens to those who reject God’s designated Savior... “And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
What a great decision it is to turn from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son to return from heaven. Jesus delivers from the wrath that is to come.
Herein is the good news: “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” [4] The FREE GIFT is eternal life in Christ Jesus. This is the greatest freedom! The gift of having your sins forgiven by God! The gift of being saved by God – not by yourself or anyone else – but saved by God! The gift of salvation from God’s wrath on sin!
I am so glad that God saves me by His grace in Christ Jesus. I urge anyone who is reading this post and who has not yet turned from idols to serve the living and true God... do so today! Believe in Jesus Christ. Don’t depend on yourself or others. Confess Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior. He is able to make this 4th of July your ultimate day of freedom!
