Worldly authorities exercise power in self-exalting style. Jesus wasn’t like that.
In ancient China, the rich grew long, long fingernails, so long they could do nothing for themselves-and this was perceived as a sign of status.
The idea of being called benefactors is really the idea of getting credit. Many people only ‘serve’ if they can be assured of getting proper credit.
“You are those who have continued with Me in My trials. And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” [2]
Jesus promises wonderful rewards to those who continue with Him. He is laying up treasures for us in heaven that cannot be taken away either by decay or by thieves.
And what is our key mission for Jesus? It is the same mission as the Holy Spirit’s, namely, to convict the world of sin. Which sin? The sin of not believing in Jesus. When sinners asked Jesus or His apostles what they should do, the answer was to, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” [3]
When sinners asked apostles what they should do, the answer was to, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” [4]
