Jesus is the Reason I Love God’s Word

“O, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” [1]

His mercy endures forever! In whom does the human race find mercy? In Christ, God the Father’s Son! The goodness of God is revealed to people via Christ. And His mercy is not fleeting, here today and gone tomorrow! No, it is everlasting. Praise the Lord!

“I called on the Lord in distress; the Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.” [2]

I only asked for relief from distress, but He gave me much more than I asked for and much more than I imagined. He set me in a broad place. The broad place includes the vastness of His knowledge, wisdom, discernment, power and understanding. The broad place includes the righteousness of Christ accredited to my account. The broad place includes His indwelling and abiding Holy Spirit. The broad place includes the Kingdom of God! All eternity in heaven with God!

“The Lord is on my side. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” [3]

The broad place includes the Lord’s protection and provision. One of the Lord’s angels can take out 185,000 enemy soldiers in a moment. The Lord can provide food via ravens, and by making small portions into large portions. God plus one equals a majority.

“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.” [4]

Millions and billions are spent on campaigns to elect people to rule, but the Lord is the ruler over all people. He comes to us in the person of His Son freely. He turns tides that people cannot turn. He changes the night into day.

“All nations surrounded me, but in the Name of the Lord, I will destroy them. You pushed me violently, that I might fall, but the Lord helped me.” [5]

The Lord is no pushover and neither are those who trust in Him.

“The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.” [6]

Whereas I used to sing silly songs that were meaningless and irrelevant, singing to the Lord has become a source of strength and salvation for me. He inhabits my praises as I worship Him in Spirit and truth and gives me faith to do great exploits for Him.

“The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I pray, O Lord; O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity. Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord! We have blessed you from the house of the Lord. God is the Lord, and He has given us light; bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar. You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You.” [7]

It doesn’t matter which authority figure or how many people reject Jesus as Messiah because God has appointed Him to be the cornerstone on which people last forever. This will never change no matter how the world changes. The day that we rejoice in is the day that God’s Son came to Jerusalem to give His life as a ransom for us all. The One we bless, the Name we name is Jesus Christ! He is the light of the world. We praise and exalt Him!

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the Law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart!” [8]

Psalm 119 exalts the blessing of God’s Law. It follows Psalm 118 which prophesies of Messiah. Only after we receive Jesus do we begin to hunger and thirst for God’s Word so greatly.

Jesus is the reason that we are undefiled in the way. Jesus is the reason we walk comfortably and gladly in the Law of the Lord. Yes, blessed are we who share His testimonies with others. Blessed are our hearts when we are loving Him! Praise the Lord!
